Week 34 was another crazy week! I don’t know what I’d do if I had nothing planned for a whole week. I think about how busy we are now and adding Baby Doser to the mix, and it’s a little overwhelming. But it’ll be totally worth it. I haven’t mentioned Baby Doser’s nickname yet. Since we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, we kept referring to the baby as “it”. Not so appealing, methinks. So Jamie came up with SPIJ, which stands for “Small Person Inside Jenny”. I didn’t like the way it sounded, so we changed “Person” to “Mammal”, and Baby Doser became “SMIJ”, which is totally cute.
SMIJ has finally decided to cooperate and be decisively head down. All those yoga moves must have paid off. I’m really glad, because I was not looking forward to the prospect of having my midwife turn him/her by rough-housing my belly. My feet are ultra-swollen, (but my blood pressure is fine) and kind of weird-looking. But my feet have never been cute, so I’m not too worked up about it. As long as I can take off my shoes, it’s all good.
We had our maternity photos taken by the incredibly talented Tamara Holden of Luminous Life. I can’t wait to share them once they’re done! After our regular session, Tam and I headed to a nearby hotel and did some experimental underwater photos. I’ve seen just a few, but they’re totally amazing. Neither of us had ever done underwater photos before, so we were just shooting for a few good ones. She shot me all pregified, and I shot her in her belly dancing costume. I’m bursting with excitement to share these images! We agreed that we need to experiment and practice more and become experts in underwater portraits. That’s totally exciting.
The biggest event of the week was the baby shower. Holy smokes, it was amazing! My mom, sisters, and mother-in-law did an awesome job of putting together a super-cute and delicious shower for me. Here’s a photo taken by my good friend Lisa that shows just one of the many awesome ideas they were able to pull off.
We got many beautiful hand-made gifts and pretty much everything on our registry. So we’re now set to start organizing SMIJ’s room. I’m most excited about the cradle we’ll use in our room, which my dad hand made and has been handed down to be used by each of the grandchildren. Once we have it here in Madison, I’ll post some pictures to show how awesome and special it is.
Father’s day was Sunday, and we got to enjoy Happy Joe’s pizza on Saturday night with my family, and a delicious small-town restaurant meal with Jamie’s family on Sunday morning. My mom, sister, and mother-in-law finally got to feel SMIJ move. Until Sunday, SMIJ was incredibly stubborn around all of them. A little ice pack on my belly did the trick and they were all able to feel some pretty big movements. It never gets old! We packed up the truck with SMIJ’s new stuff and headed home. Jamie got an awesome gift of a video game-themed tee shirt and matching onsie, which I’ll share photos of when he and SMIJ can wear them together.
I’m looking forward to the next three to seven weeks. I really enjoy being pregnant, and I’m starting to feel a little anxious (okay, scared to death) about labor and delivery. The nursery will hopefully start coming together this week.
